The HUFTM project has both immediate and longer-term objectives, managed in two phases.
Phase 1: reopening the Wing Hangar
Phase 1 brought a new long-term temporary reception building to the site, with educational facilities to support local schools and colleges with STEM. It was installed in July 2024 and let us reopen the museum, first to guided groups. The museum was officially opened on 4 April 2025.
There’s still plenty of work to do inside the Wing Hangars to bring the museum up to a walk-in public standard.
Phase 2: a permanent home
Phase 2 will launch a public appeal to fund a permanent, modern museum on the site, with a new workshop, extended reception and admin space, and new display and public meeting areas.
That larger building will let us create a much wider and more vibrant community education and social hub for Hucknall.
